Receiving a Prophetic Utterance

  1. How do we know a WORD spoken by a person/prophet is from our Creator/God?
  2. Is a prophecy given by God required to come to pass?
  3. What do we do about a prophecy – when we are given one or learn of one which applies to the “End of Days” and therefore applies to us?

(When the words: prophecy, Word of Knowledge or Vision are employed in this Post the author is referring to a genuine supernatural Word from the Lord by one manifestation or another.)

1)

From the Old Testament – Deuteronomy 18:21-22

The Question:

You may say to yourselves “How can we know when a message (Word from the Lord) has not been spoken by God?” (Deuteronomy 18:21)

Biblical Answer:

If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message (prophecy) the LORD HAS NOT SPOKEN. That prophet has spoken presumptuously… (Deuteronomy 18:21).

In other words… the prophecy is garbage!

2) Is a prophecy given by God required to come to pass?

From the New Testament – Luke 21:22

For these be the days of vengeance, THAT ALL THINGS WRITTEN may be fulfilled (Luke 21:22 NIV)

Luke 18:31

Then He (Jesus) took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished.”

Luke 24:44

Then He (Jesus) said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”

With certainty… every Biblical prophecy related to Jesus and the “End of Days” will be fulfilled!

Why are the “End of Days” included in this statement?

Simply put, the “End-Times” are an element of Christ’s Covenant commanded to take place in the book of Daniel, chapter 9, verses 24-27.  Daniel 9:24-27 lists the very element of the covenant by which Jesus fulfilled Salvation for any who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-11).

The End-Times are here whether the Saints of God prepare or not. A truly sad truth is that many good and faithful Christians will receive the Mark of the Beast when it hits SIMPLY because they have been fed false doctrines such as: Pre, Mid and Post Tribulation doctrines; A-Millennialism and Preterism.

For each of these doctrines there is a reason why people/Christians will be deceived when “The Mark” is first offered.  For one, because they will see “The Mark” as just another piece of technology demonized by Christians they don’t trust or know.

3) What do we do about a prophecy – when we are given one or learn of one which applies to the “End of Days” and therefore applies to us?

First, every prophecy of the Lord should be confirmed by the mouth of two or three witnesses (2 Corinthians 13:1).  However, sometimes two or three witnesses are unnecessary:

  • either because the person who gave the prophecy was established by his or her place as a genuine Prophet of the LORD
  • or the method by which you received the prophecy confirmed the Word was actually from the Lord.

Let’s press on…

Too often when a person/prophet gives a legitimate Word of the LORD the recipients don’t truly listen. However, they listen or not, the prophecy will come to pass as the LORD intended.  Unfortunately, the person/s will not have the advantage God desired – BECAUSE THEY DID NOT LISTEN!

Gratefully, I have prophesied more than one-hundred times with every prophecy, save two, coming to pass; leastwise, so far.

Sadly, I can count on two hands the individuals who heard those prophecies and then responded accordingly.

I have also made it a point to inform numerous family and friends when I have prophesied, purpose being, to keep myself accountable for the things I have said in the name of the Lord.

Most often I’ve recorded the prophecies and even written them into blogs and posts and articles.  In this way my wording and the prophecies can be confirmed… when they do or do not come to pass.

Would you be surprised to learn – that more often than not – people try to tell me how the prophecy should have been fulfilled or when it should have been fulfilled?  Unbelievably, these are often naysayers who usually make declarations about the Word of the LORD contrary to the original wording in the prophecy.  They should work on their listening skills.

I would imagine that is also true for me.

So –

  1. How do we know a WORD spoken by a person/prophet is from our Creator/God?
  2. Is a prophecy given by God required to come to pass?
  3. What do we do about a prophecy – when we are given one or learn of one which applies to the “End of Days” and therefore applies to us?

In answer to questions one and two, a prophecy from our Creator will come to pass.

3)

What do we do when a prophecy comes our way?

  • Listen carefully
  • Record the prophecy, including nuances. Even if you must hold the prophet in place for an extended period, carefully get a word for word rendition.
  • Determine if the prophet heard actual words from the LORD or received images/visions or if they merely received an impression from the LORD.  It makes a huge difference.
  • Lastly, remember the person who gave you the prophecy, the date and where you were.

Well, I hope this article helped you in some way or confirmed answers you’d been pondering. Until next time, may the Lord bless you and keep you and all your loved ones in His gracious and glorious care, amen.
