Salvation to the World
A “forewarning” is an advanced warning of something to come. I know, duh.
Through the use of ancient scriptures, God forewarned the world many centuries in advance that He would provide salvation for both Gentiles and Israelites alike. A scriptural forewarning differs from a foreshadowing primarily in the method and purpose of delivery.
A forewarning is established by use of prophetic scriptures, whereas a foreshadowing parallels future events allegorically through events or actions in the physical world.
Old Testament scriptures related to salvation present one example of a forewarning. There are multiple scriptural forewarnings for salvation.
In Isaiah 9:2, it says, “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the Land of the shadow of death upon them hath the light shined.”
Isaiah 9:2 is only one of many scriptures related to the coming of a Savior and the salvation that would one day be made available for all mankind.
Just so you know… a gentile is someone who is not of the line of Abraham, in other words, someone who is not Jewish.
The gentiles were and many still are those people who walk in darkness, outside of God’s divine enlightenment.
According to scripture, Jesus is the light of the world. In John 9:5, Jesus stated, “As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.” Jesus IS the light of the world.
Many people who walk in darkness and dwell in the land of the shadow of death are also those who have been given access to Jesus and His great light. God walked among us in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ, and brought the light of Christ to “a world” in spiritual darkness. John 1:1 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is the Word that was with God and is God.
The writer stated in John 1:14, “… and the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Jesus, the light of the world, sacrificed Himself for the world’s sin, thereby becoming the great light that shined in the darkness which is the Land of the Shadow of Death. The Land of the Shadow of Death is the world without any hope or knowledge of Jesus or salvation and therefore results in eternal separation from the presence of God everyone’s Creator.
God gave the Light, His only begotten Son, so we might be saved and have His light. Jesus being the Light of the World was always God’s plan since before the fall of Adam. You see, Jesus is the Lamb of God slain from the foundations of this world.
John 1:4–5 states, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
Through God’s Word, He forewarned the world that His Servant “Jesus” would be coming to make war with humanity and not peace (Matthew 10:34–36). Be aware, for those who are saved and therefore in league with Christ or saved by Jesus Christ there can be real peace; however, for those without Jesus there can be only war, now and forever, at least until the creation of the new heaven and earth at whose end will come at the Millennial Reign.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33a NIV).
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Isaiah 65:17
We should be so fortunate to live in Christ with death and hell are cast into the Lake of Fire and that too is cast away for all eternity. Never more to remember the pains of yesteryear.
Next time we’ll discuss the forewarnings of Christ and the Great Consummation.
