Really Coming to Pass

In This Side of the Whirlwind’s recent post, https://thissideofthewhirlwind.wordpress.com/2017/02/28/literally-or-figuratively/ it is asserted Biblical events described in the Book of Revelation about the Great Consummation (what many mistakenly call the Great Tribulation) will in fact be literally carried out in the real world and in real time.

Unless you are one of those individuals who believes Jesus only figuratively walked on the waters or metaphorically fed the 5,000 then somewhere in your idea of God, His Word and Jesus hanging on the Cross you actually believe God can do all things and does operate through supernatural methods when it is appropriate to HIS message and purposes.

Such is the material we will touch on today.

  1. Are the locusts of the Fifth Trumpet of Judgment (Revelation 9:1-11) actually some form of supernatural judgment which takes place in the natural world?
  2. Does the locusts mentioned in the second chapter of Joel verses 1-11 essentially parallel this same futuristic judgment conveyed in Revelation 9:1-11 covering the Fifth Trumpet?
  3. When the passage in Revelation 9:5 states, “And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months.” Does it truly mean humans cannot die during this infamous period?

Let’s see what the scripture says.

Revelation 9:1–11

(It would be best to follow along in your bibles)

The commencement of the fifth trumpet takes place near the beginning of the Days of Vengeance.[1] The fifth trumpet requires a minimum of five months to reach its fulfillment. The Trumpets of Judgment will begin shortly after the Day of the Lord has begun (Revelation 8:1-7). At the sounding of the fifth trumpet, an actual angel, supernatural being, will descend from the heavens with an appearance like that of a shooting star plunging through the skies.  This angelic being will carry the keys to the bottomless pit.[2]

The angel will then open the bottomless pit, releasing great quantities of smoke, pitch, and locust-like creatures. The sun and air will be darkened by the smoke and pitch for an unspecified period of time.

During the first five to six months of God’s Wrath which will begin almost immediately after the Body of Christ has been resurrected, the locusts-like creatures will be empowered to torment the remainder of humanity with painful scorpion-like stings. During these torturous months of Judgment through ongoing locust attacks, God will supernaturally prevent anyone/everyone from dying or killing another person regardless of what is done in this physical world. (Sounds impossible I know; nevertheless, God created the universe by speaking it into existence.  How hard could keeping humanity alive be for such a magnificent Being?)

We continue… The locust-like creatures (as described in Revelation 9:7–11 and Joel 2:1–11) will be permitted to torment anyone who has not been sealed with the name of God as the 144,000 Elect have been.

If the locust attacks are not literal or in the physical world then how would they torment humanity and why would physical death be of concern on any level? Just a thought.  Let’s continue…

One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter” (Revelation 9:12 KJV).

Due to the text found in Revelation 9:12 and 11:14, the sixth and seventh trumpets will need to be fulfilled in succession of the fifth trumpet.

 Revelation 9:13–19

(Again, if the following events are not taken literally, then how is humanity to be impacted on such a grand scale?)

When the sixth trumpet sounds, the four angels, who have been bound in the great river Euphrates, are now set free to fulfill their assigned duties. The angels and their armies will consist of two hundred million soldiers and their curious steeds. These unnatural if not supernatural creatures will be sent to destroy one-third of mankind. Bear in mind, no true Christian will remain on earth following the Rapture or resurrection of the saints when the Day of the Lord has begun.

 Revelation 9:20–21

Based on biblical text, the remnants of humanity (excluding Israel), those who were not killed by the first five trumpets, will continue in their rebelliousness and refuse to repent or prostrate themselves before the God. Israel will be under the tutelage of the Two Witnesses and 144,000 Elect while these trials are effecting humanity.

The events in Revelation 9 take place during the Day of the Lord after the Rapture, after the 144,000 Elect have been sealed. The Wrath of God will only span one year. During this singular year, all seven trumpets must be fulfilled. Scripture stipulates the fifth trumpet will require five months for completion with the sixth and seventh trumpets following in succession. The sixth trumpet delivers two hundred million supernatural creatures across the face of the earth to destroy one-third of humanity’s remnant. Even with this task falling to two hundred million soldiers, it will require a realistic period in the physical world to fulfill the sixth trumpet. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude the fifth trumpet will begin its fulfillment as early in the year of recompense[3] as possible. When the woes of the fifth trumpet have concluded, there can remain only five to seven months until the seventh trumpet must also be sounded. This same period represents the potential buildup to the Battle of Armageddon, which will begin or be ready to begin promptly at the end of the Time of the Gentiles. Several elements related to the final battle will likely take place during the last year of the Great Consummation in order to fulfill God’s Wrath and complete the Great Consummation which is the Second Half of Christ’s Covenant with humanity.
